Art Therapy

Art therapy may be described as "counselling using art", however the process is guided by your intuition rather than your mental processes, so it's difficult to define.

Art therapy is non-judgmental and doesn't require any special ability or disability to participate. It is the intuitive expression of a person's feelings at the time of creating the artwork. This becomes most important in a session with an art therapist.

Working together as a group, or individually in a group, people tend to feel more supported and encouraged to express themselves freely. Some workshops involve movement to release imagination and creativity and to help focus on the present. Themed workshops include Clown, Weaving, Inner Child, Scribble Technique, Heroic Journey.

In one-on-one art therapy, various activities are introduced according to the person's needs and personality. It usually begins by playing with art media.

I work in these areas: acquired brain injury; mental health; aged care; trauma; grief and loss; preschool children; teenagers; carers; intellectually and physically disabled; team building; celebration.

I run an open art therapy group session on the second Saturday of the month. Anyone is welcome, please contact me for details.
